The supermarket sent shoppers into a spin on Monday morning when one person drew attention to the sale on Facebook.

’50 CENTS! No, not the rapper, this is the actual PRICE of these chips!!,’ someone posted on I Bought It At.

The post swiftly became popular online, where others tagged their friends and commented ‘we gotta go get some’.

The hot chips usually retail for $4.30 for a one kilogram bag, but are currently down to 50 cents.

Speaking to FEMAIL, a Coles spokesperson said the sale is happening on a ‘store by store basis based on stock volumes’, and it comes ahead of a new launch.

‘Coles is clearing space for an exciting new range of products that are set to land in stores across Australia over the next couple of weeks… watch this space,’ they said.

 Online commenters are guessing that the items are either being discontinued or coming back with new and improved packaging, but this is unconfirmed.

The sale isn’t the first time Coles have slashed the prices of their frozen fries.

Just last month, the supermarket offered bags of Birds Eyes Deli style chips for 98 cents, when the product usually retails for $3.50. 

The sea salt and rosemary flavour and parmesan garlic and basil variety were up for grabs at a discount price. 

Shoppers were then quick to express their delight about the chips being on sale.

‘We love these but can never afford them,’ one person said.

‘I went in the morning and bought one each. Came home, cooked them and went back to buy more,’ another said.
