Son of New Jersey’s governor plays Circle Game on stage

As New Jersey’s new governor Phil Murphy was being sworn in at his inauguration, his son was busy using the spotlight to play the infamous circle game.

When all eyes were on the Murphy family on Tuesday night, the Democrat’s eldest son Josh flashed the OK hand signal below his waist as his father finished taking the oath.

Josh, who is a sophomore at Tufts University, was standing on stage at the time alongside his father, mother Tammy and his three younger siblings.

He was in prime position just behind state Supreme Court Chief Justice Stuart Rabner as the new governor took the oath on the same Bible that John F. Kennedy used when he was sworn in as president.

The subtle circle game move was made famous by the 2000s hit show Malcolm In The Middle.

If a person successfully manages to get people to look at the hand gesture, it generally means they can then punch them.

Josh could be seen clasping his hands in front of him moments before he made his move.

He momentarily, but very clearly, held the OK signal next to his leg before he joined the crowd’s applause for his father.

Murphy, a former Wall Street executive and political newcomer, replaces Republican Chris Christie as governor.

His election places the governor’s office in Democratic hands for the first time since 2009. Democrats also control both houses of the Legislature.

Murphy’s running mate, former Assemblywoman Sheila Oliver, was sworn in as lieutenant governor. Oliver also will head of the state’s Community Affairs Department and will become acting governor whenever Murphy is out of state.

Murphy hosted his inaugural ball under a tent at MetLife Stadium later on Tuesday night.
