Once the puppy was freed it quickly started wagging its tail – much to the delight of the firefighters involved in the rescue.

Firecrews said the puppy wasn’t injured.

Ferguson Assistant Fire Chief Randy Skaggs said the firefighters got lucky with the rescue.

‘They got him around the body and were able to pull him out after about 20 minutes of trying different things,’ Skaggs said.

The puppy’s young owner watched on as the rescue effort unfolded.

Skaggs said the boy was ‘thrilled’ when he was reunited with his pet.
