Stolen puppy ‘Bowie’ reunited with owner three months she was taken from a fast food restaurant

A little puppy stolen from the front of a fast food restaurant has been miraculously reunited with her owner three months later.

Bowie, a now nine-month-old cavoodle, was reconciled with her emotional owner Jo Hodge after he was stolen in April.

The puppy was snatched while she was tied up out the front of a New Zealand burger franchise with CCTV footage revealing the offender unclipped the pooch from her lead and walked off in less than 30 seconds.

Bowie had followed the family home and a microchip scan led to the tearful reunion.

‘There were lots of tears of joy and smiles from the staff,’ Auckland Council Animal Shelters shared online.

‘Again this proves that microchipping is critical for every dog to have, it helps reunite dogs with owners in all situations even when having been stolen.’

The delighted owner said her beloved four-legged friend had become ‘enormous and hairy’ since her disappearance in April, according to Stuff.

‘I always knew in my heart we would get her home, I just didn’t know when and if she would still be our dog when we got her back,’ Ms Hodge said.

‘It’s surreal. My mind is blown.’

Auckland Police released CCTV footage of the brazen moment someone walked up to Bowie outside the burger shop, unclipped her lead and walked off shortly after 6.30pm on April 16.

‘She’s a loveable, cheeky, little red/brown Cavoodle that wasn’t just part of our family, she is family,’ Ms Hodge wrote on their givealittle page earlier this year.

The page, which raised $1,360, was created to raise money to use as a reward to bring the puppy home.

The reward went unclaimed and will how reportedly be donated to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA).
