Strictly Come Dancing: BBC bosses turn to Zoella’s brother Joe Sugg

Fears that this year’s Strictly Come Dancing line-up could be less of a Who’s Who of showbusiness and more of Who’s That? grew yesterday.

The latest reported contestant is Joe Sugg, a name likely to be unfamiliar to millions of the BBC show’s viewers.

The 26-year-old has become an online success thanks to his YouTube channel on which he broadcasts videos of himself performing pranks and challenges.

He is probably better known for being the brother of fellow YouTube personality Zoella, real name Zoe Sugg.

The local radio DJ: Vick Hope, DJ, 28, who presents a breakfast show on London-based independent radio station Capital FM

The newsreader: Kate Silverton, broadcaster, 48, who presents the major BBC news bulletins and is a mother of two

One rumoured contestant that viewers will probably have heard of is BBC newsreader Kate Silverton, 48.

‘Kate has been at the top of the producers’ wish list for more than a decade,’ a TV source told The Sun. ‘But she has always put her career and family above everything. She was asked previously but was reporting on the front line in Iraq and Afghanistan so couldn’t do it.’

Meanwhile, reports that former boyband star Lee Ryan, 35, will also take part will add to complaints that the show is casting too many ‘amateurs’ who are actually accomplished dancers.

Ryan, who spent years performing with Blue, is expected to compete alongside Ashley Roberts of the Pussycat Dolls and former Steps star Faye Tozer.

This year’s suggested line-up is completed by Vick Hope, a DJ on the London-based radio station Capital FM.

A Strictly spokesman said: ‘We don’t comment on speculation and the full line-up will be announced in due course.’
