Substitute teacher, 24, pleads guilty to sexual battery

Madeline Marx, 24, pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual battery in Ohio court on Tuesday

A substitute teacher pleaded guilty to charges of sexual battery on Tuesday for having sex with two of her students.

This comes three months after Madeline Marx’s lawyers tried to enter a plea of not guilty by reason of insanity.

The judge ordered the 24-year-old to undergo a mental evaluation in December, and experts discovered that she was sane enough to be held responsible for her actions.

Marx was taken into custody at Kettering Fairmont High on November 8, 2017, after police started investigating the substitute teacher when students went to the administration and said she was having inappropriate relationships with students.

Prosecutors say they discovered that Marx had sexual encounters with two teens – a 16-year-old boy and a 17-year-old boy.

Marx’s guilty plea comes three months after she broke down and cried in court as her defense attorneys tried to enter a not guilty plea by reason of insanity. A psychological evaluation later confirmed she was sane

The younger boy said he had sex with Marx in a car parked behind a Kettering apartment building on September 21.

The other victim said Marx performed oral sex on him in a car parked in a Big Lots parking lot on July 19.

Marx also allegedly confessed to sending nude pictures to one of the students on Snapchat and Instagram.

Marx is due back in court on April 19 for sentencing. She faces up to six years in prison and will have to register as a Tier III Sex Offender.

‘We became aware (Marx) was possibly involved with inappropriate activities with a juvenile,’ Kettering Superintendent Scott Inskeep said after Marx’s arrest.

‘When we become aware of them then we will remove those people and not have them around our students.’

Marx had been given a four year teaching license last year that enabled her to teach grades K-12, WHIO reports.

Marx graduated last year from the University of Dayton and dropped out of a fall 2013 sexual ethics class, WHIO says.

She graduated from the nearby Chaminade Julienne Catholic High School in 2012.
