‘I feel bad for the ones who are no longer with the show’: Sunrise reporter Edwina Bartholomew has sympathy for her ‘friends’ at rival breakfast program Today …after dramatic revamp that saw Karl Stefanovic and Sylvia Jeffreys exit

Sunrise is smashing the ratings and entertainment reporter Edwina Bartholomew is probably fairly assured her job is safe.

That has not been the case for her rivals at Today, and the 35-year-old says she has sympathy for her peers.

Speaking to The Daily Telegraph, Edwina revealed: ‘I did feel bad for the ones who are no longer with the show’.

The TV host says she and her rivals, ‘see each other out and about all the time. So you get to know one another’.

She added that despite wanting to ‘win’ the ratings competition, ‘we are all still friends at the end of the day’.

Her comments come after yet another cut was made to the Today line up on Friday, with weather presenter Natalia Cooper leaving her role with the breakfast program just weeks into beginning her maternity leave.

The 35-year-old will leave behind the role she has held since 2016 to transition back to presenting news.

On Friday, Confidential quoted an insider who claimed that the popular weather girl was ‘pushed’ from the role.

The latest exit from the troubled breakfast program comes after a recent revamp that has seen stars Karl Stefanovic, Peter Stefanovic and Sylvia Jeffreys exit, while Richard Wilkins was demoted.

After five years as sports reporter, Tim Gilbert was also dropped from the Channel Nine show in January, during what was called a ‘bloodbath’ at the network.

The new-look Today show includes entertainment reporter Brooke Boney, Tony Jones, Deborah Knight, Georgie Gardner and Tom Steinfort.

Veteran TV weatherman Steve Jacobs also recently resumed his old job on the beleaguered breakfast show.

Channel Nine executives were hoping that the new Today show lineup would halt its downward spiral in the ratings.

But recent results show that Today is experiencing its lowest ratings since 2006.
