Sydney crime figure fighting for life suddenly falling ill

A 24-year-old driver is in a critical condition in hospital after he was pulled over by an elite police strike force squad searching for illegal guns in Sydney’s southwest and suddenly became ill.

Abdullah Hawchar was arrested yesterday as a part of a sting from Strike Force Raptor, a unit that has been decimating the bikie and Middle Eastern organised crime community.

Police on Tuesday had not ruled out the possibility the man swallowed something that made him ill as he was pulled over.

Hawchar was pulled over on Cornelia Street in Campsie at around 6am on Monday morning with the unit acting on behalf of firearms prohibitions orders.

The man told Strike Force Raptor officers he was feeling unwell as they searched his vehicle in Campsie early on Monday and he was rushed to Canterbury Hospital.

He’s since been transferred to Royal Prince Alfred Hosptial where AAP understands he is fighting for life.

A critical incident police investigation is underway following the man’s mysterious and rapid decline.

‘At this stage what we know is after the vehicle stop he started saying he wasn’t feeling well and prior to that he was normal,’ a NSW Police spokesman told AAP on Tuesday.

Hawchar was arrested at Sydney Airport last year while trying to leave the country.

He has links to Wallid Ahmad who was murdered execution-style outside a western Sydney shopping centre.

Abdullah is the youngest of the three Hawchar brothers. He, Mohammad, 27, and Ahmed, 26, all have firearm convictions.
