A teacher at an elite Sydney private school who had sex with a 17-year-old student says she knew it was wrong but felt ‘very lonely’ at the time and was struggling with her mental health.

The 34-year-old woman had sex with the boy several times in 2016 when she worked at Sydney Grammar School and bombarded him with messages after he tried to end contact, an agreed statement of facts said.

The woman told a New South Wales District Court sentence hearing on Thursday that by the end of 2015 she was beginning to cross boundaries with the student but her thinking wasn’t clear or rational.
