At least three people have been arrested by heavily-armed police in Sydney’s Centennial Park after shots were reportedly fired at a van.

Just after noon on Wednesday police smashed the passenger-side window of a white Toyota Pajero, arrested two men, and seized a number of items.

A third man was arrested in a white rental van with four bullet holes in the windscreen 20 metres away, and police bagged bundles of cash as evidence.

‘The arrests relate to an ongoing investigation by the state crime command’s organised crime squad,’ a New South Wales Police spokesman said on Wednesday.

Footage from the scene shows a white four-wheel drive with its doors flung open parked precariously in the middle of Grand Drive.

Police are searching the vehicle while nearby officers appear to be processing evidence retrieved from the car.

The operation unfolded about 100 metres away from the park’s main cafe.

Some media outlets reported gunshots being heard in the park and bullet holes seen in a white van.

The operation was not counter-terrorism related.
