A man has been filmed beating up a taxi driver outside an airport before fleeing the scene in the victim’s cab.

The incident, which occurred at 4am on January 18 outside the Melbourne Airport, was caught on camera by a passerby who filmed the cabbie being punched and drug across the floor.

The fight reportedly began after the carjacker got into the cab as it drove past the arrivals area outside the terminal, 9News reports.

An argument is believed to have erupted between the two men inside the car before the taxi driver got out of the vehicle.

The brawl spilled out onto the street in front of dozens of witnesses. 

The man is filmed punching and kicking the driver before dragging him across the tarmac and slapping him repeatedly.

The taxi was found dumped more than 30km from Melbourne Airport in a north-east suburb

Onlookers manage to grab hold of the attacker, who then fled in the taxi driver’s car. 

The vehicle was found dumped in Lower Plenty, 33km away from the airport.

Witnesses have been asked to contact Crime Stoppers with information about the attacker’s identity.
