A 17-year-old boy has died in hospital after an altercation with a staff member at a local swimming pool near Newcastle.
A number of witnesses were forced to restrain the teenager after he assaulted an employee just after 5pm on Tuesday, according to NSW Police.
The incident took place at the local pool at Durham Road, Lambton, where the teenager was treated by paramedics at the scene.
The boy was rushed to John Hunter Hospital where he died.

A parent told the Newcastle Herald someone jumped in the pool and disrupted swimming lessons, causing the centre to go into lockdown.
‘Obviously people were coming from everywhere trying to help,’ the parent told the publication.
‘I went to pick up the kids and the pool was all in lockdown. We had to wait while they took the kids out the back of the pool.’
More than one employee was injured during the assault and had to be treated by paramedics at the scene, according to reports.
NSW Police has launched a critical investigation into the circumstances around the death of the teenager.

A witness said it was ‘one of the biggest crime scenes I’ve ever seen’ according to the Daily Telegraph.
Police would not comment further on the nature of the teenager’s injuries.
In a since-deleted Facebook post, Lambton Swimming Pool said they would re-open the pool at 9am on Wednesday.
‘Lambton Pool will reopen today (18th October) at 9:00am,’ the statement read.
‘We appreciate the patience and understanding for the small disruption.’
A police spokesperson told ABC News police were not involved in the teenager’s death and are appealing for witnesses.
