Terminally ill Staffy dog named MuShu ticks off her bucket list wish of riding in a police car

A terminally ill dog has gone on the ultimate police car ridealong after being diagnosed with inoperable cancer.

MuShu, 11, was diagnosed with cancer three weeks ago, and unfortunately cannot be saved.

Her owners, Josh and Kerry Boyd, got her as a pup in 2007, so they were devastated when they heard the terrible news.

‘The vets had told us that she didn’t have very many treatment options because she’s got arthritis in her leg,’ Kerry told 7 News.

The couple decided they wanted to remember MuShu’s final days fondly so they wrote her a bucket list to tick off before she dies.

Kerry said the list was ‘a good way to celebrate her life’, adding that, as a dog person, it’s can very distressing to find out that your pet is going to die.

In addition to a trip to the beauty parlour, one of Mushu’s bucket list items was to go for a police car ridealong.

With the assistance of Constable Rachel Skill, Queensland Police were happy to help make the pup’s wish come true on Tuesday.

Wearing a high-vis vest, police hat and sunglasses, MuShu got to pose for photos behind the wheel of an official police vehicle before Constable Skill took her for a ride around the block.

Sargent Nigel Dalton told 7 News that Queensland Police were happy to help Josh and Kerry, saying it was great to be able to ‘help the process’.

In a statement on the Queensland Police website, Sargent Dalton added: ‘It was wonderful to see the smiles on Mushu’s parents Kerry and Josh’s face and help them enjoy Mushu while she is still well enough.’

Josh and Kerry said, as part of their bucket list, they plan to take MuShu to a nursing home as well.
