The BEACHFRONT apartment that costs less than $100k – but there is a catch

A fantastic beachfront apartment on the Sunshine Coast is up for grabs, and you can get your hands on it for less than $100,000 – but there is a catch.

The sunny one-bedroom, one bathroom apartment at magnificent Marcoola Beach is a cash-only deal – and a bargain at $99,000.

So instead of saving tens of thousands of dollars for a first home loan deposit, this affordable piece of paradise could be a great way to get into the property market.

The apartment, which is located halfway between Mooloolaba and Peregian Springs, originally was a hotel room until the building became strata titled in 2000.

So what do you get for the $99,000 price tag? Well, despite it’s obvious challenges, you get plenty, according to marketing agent Mark McDonald of North Shore Reality.

‘Properties in this price range are so rare,’ he told Domain. ‘They don’t come up often. For someone who has some cash and wants to invest, they can use this place as a weekender, holiday let it, or both.’

He said the small size of the apartment meant that it doesn’t meet the minimum square metres required by banks in order to lend against – making it a cash-only deal.

The apartment’s open-plan design means that the property has a combined living, dining and sleeping arrangement, although it does come with an ensuite bathroom.

That said, built-in wardrobes and wall-mountable fixtures for appliances such as a television provide additional space so you can streamline your storage.

The apartment is also fitted with ducted air-conditioning for those balmy summer days and nights, and it has the added bonus of having its own private balcony.

Mr McDonald said the property does have its downsides, however, one being that it doesn’t have its own kitchen – mainly because it was originally a hotel room.

He continued to say the property is still a fantastic opportunity for the right buyer – especially given its prime position to the beach.

‘This is right on the beach, no road in between, with the Sunshine Coast airport and restaurants and cafes to eat out at nearby,’ he said.

The beachfront complex also comes with great facilities that will make everyday feel like a holiday, including an onsite restaurant, coffee bar and sports bar.

It even has its own gym and a stunning swimming pool area, complete with deck chairs and undercover areas.
