The Chicken Connoisseur lands new show The Peng Life

He became a viral sensation when he began posting his reviews of London’s cheap and cheerful chicken shops online.

But now the self-styled Chicken Connoisseur, real name Elijah Quashie – has swapped sticky tables and strip lighting after landing his own TV show – which sees him travel the world by private jet to sample foodie delights.

But the 25-year-old YouTube star hasn’t lost his taste for fried food altogether, as a new trailer for his Channel 4 series The Peng Life sees him sample the world’s most expensive kebab.

The show sees Elijah pitting his home comforts and beloved fried chicken against more high end fare – and having his say on all of it.

A glimpse of the show revealed in the trailer shows Elijah mingling with celebs including supermodel Winnie Harlow and rapper Pro Green, pronouncing pricey Wagyu beef ‘the same as regular beef’, and chomping on chicken in the passenger seat of a Lamborghini.

The series sees Elijah getting a taste of the high life with his friends, twins Nelson and Wilson.

However, he doesn’t seem so impressed with all of the finer things in life, as one scene in the trailer shows him eating fried chicken in a Lamborghini Gallardo, before vomiting it back up.

He is joined by a host of celebrities in his series, including model Winnie, boxer David Haye, Professor Green and model Jodie Kidd.

With Winnie, who starred in America’s Next Top Model, Elijah spends the night in a five star hotel penthouse.

And elsewhere, in rather more down to earth scenes, Elijah takes a trip on a canal barge and catches a budget coach ride.

He gets his hair trimmed by barber to the stars Daniel J, before getting a cut from his favourite North London stylist Damo.

In another scene he tastes a £925 kebab, the most expensive in the world, to see how it compares to his favourite takeaways.

Speaking to the Evening Standard, the YoutTube sensation revealed how underwhelmed he was by some of the more expensive experiences he had.

He said wagyu beef was ‘just like regular beef’, and said of the superyacht: ‘It’s a boat. It hasn’t left the boat stage.’

Elijah’s humorous reviews called ‘The Pengest Munch’ attracted millions of views when they first emerged in 2016.

In the videos he dissects the crunch of fries and the texture of chicken, before giving the shops a rating out of five.

He describes himself as a ‘a food critic for mandem who care to know what the finest chicken restaurants in London are and where to find them’.

When Elijah is impressed with a particular dish he brands it ‘peng’ – which is slang for great.
