A teenage boy was stabbed in the back and another man was slashed in the face on Monday when a brawl broke out on the beach at Coney Island.

The fight happened on Monday at 7pm when hundreds of people were still basking in the sunshine on the famous boardwalk and beach. 

A video of it was later shared on Snapchat and showed the large group of young men scrapping on the sand.

Police had already been to speak to the group at around 6.20pm. 

It is not clear what prompted the fighting at 7pm, but video footage showed the young men picking each other up and throwing each other down on the sand as crowds watched. 

The teenage boy was stabbed in the back and torso and the 21-year-old man was slashed in the face. 

Both were taken to local hospitals and are expected to make full recoveries.

Police are now campaigning for information about the knifeman. 

He ran away before authorities returned to the scene.

A police helicopter was deployed to try to track him down but those efforts were also unsuccessful.

Temperatures soared to 91F on Monday, prompting hundreds to descend on the famous Brooklyn beach. 

It remains unclear why the fight broke out.
