The Rock says… g’day! Dwayne Johnson reveals his ‘pretty good’ Australian accent on The Project

As one of Hollywood’s most successful actors, you’d expect Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson to have a decent grasp of foreign accents.

And on Tuesday’s episode of The Project, the former WWE wrestler demonstrated his rather convincing Australian twang.

With a little encouragement from host Tommy Little, the 46-year-old Skyscraper star handled classic Aussie staples such as ‘how ya goin’ mate’ and ‘yeah, nah’ with ease.

The humour was cranked up a notch when the pair tried out some more colourful local phrases, such as ‘ya takin’ the p**s mate?’ and ‘come on, ya d**k head’.

Dwayne’s Australian accent was fairly impressive, perhaps because he briefly lived in New Zealand as a child, and even Tommy thought it was ‘pretty good’.

Following the impromptu accent lesson, Tommy then asked Dwayne to ‘apologise’ to Australia for ‘killing’ Kylie Minogue in 2015.

This was a cheeky reference, of course, to the 2016 film San Andreas, which featured a scene where Kylie’s character is killed by a falling building.

Playing along with Tommy’s joke, the Baywatch star duly ‘apologised’ to everyone in Australia for Kylie’s untimely ‘death’ in the disaster movie.

Dwayne’s light-hearted interview on The Project was just one of several Australian media appearances this week promoting the upcoming blockbuster Skyscraper.

Dwayne caught up with his pal Beau Ryan during a Today show interview on Wednesday, and even took a friendly swipe at the former NRL star.

Beau asked if Dwayne was returning to Australia any time soon, only to be told: ‘Whenever you’re not there, that’s when I’m going!’

The comment was said in jest, however, as the duo have been unlikely friends since 2015 when Beau interviewed Dwayne for the release of San Andreas.

The following year, Dwayne and his Central Intelligence co-star Kevin Hart tricked the retired rugby league player into drinking a vile cocktail on The Footy Show.

And in 2017, they reunited for another segment which saw Dwayne hack Beau’s hair to pieces after promising to give him a haircut just like his own.
