Thieving duo rob an 87-year-old woman in a Shropshire Aldi

Two heartless thieves snatched an elderly woman’s purse after distracting her as she shopped in a supermarket.

The pair targeted the 87-year-old woman as she wheeled her trolley around  in Aldi, Oswestry, Shropshire.

CCTV footage shows how she was lured into a conversation while a second man swiftly took the purse from her bag and calmly walked away.

After his first attempt to take the purse, the theft stalled, and then struck a second time before taking the elderly ladies belongings.

While the man kept the lady distracted by showing her items on the shelf the second his accomplice checked the purse, before putting it in his pockets and walking away.

Police are now searching for the suspects, believed to be Eastern European and in their 40’s, who carried out the theft at the store on the Oswald Road Road at around 10.25 am on October 24.

One man was described as having short hair and was wearing a smart blue jacket, while the other was bald with glasses, stocky and wearing a black jacket.

A spokesperson from West Mercia police said: ‘West Mercia Police has released CCTV in connection of a reported theft.

‘The incident took place at around 10.25am on Tuesday 24 October, in a supermarket on Oswald Road in Oswestry.
