He went down in Logies history for his intoxicated post-awards appearance on the Today show back in 2009.
And Karl Stefanovic’s fondness for alcohol was mentioned on air on Friday, when fill-in host Ben Fordham cheekily suggested he drinks on the job.
During a live weather segment, Ben claimed reporter Natalia Cooper was ‘about to do a Karl Stefanovic’ when she raised a shot glass of liquor.
While sampling Croatian liquor, Natalia said: ‘This is traditional alcohol, it’s a little bit early in the morning – but if we were going to say cheers, what would it be in Croatian?’
Sylvia Jeffreys joked back in the Today studio: ‘It’s never too early for Rakija [a fruit brandy popular in the Balkans], especially not on a Friday.’
‘Did Natalie drink that?’ Ben then asked, before adding: ‘We’ll watch her progress, she’s about to do a Karl Stefanovic!’
Natalie insisted her shot glass did not contain alcohol, however, adding: ‘No, it’s a bit too early for me.’
Taking a swipe! Ben’s comments appeared to be a thinly-veiled jab at Karl’s (pictured) infamous ‘drunk’ post-Logies appearance in 2009

Karl’s infamous morning-after-the-Logies appearance on Today in 2009 saw him looking visibly worse for wear and confessing he hadn’t had any sleep.
In a 2014 interview, Karl admitted he got ‘smashed’ at the awards ceremony like any other year – but due to the popularity of YouTube, the footage went viral.
‘This was the first Logies when stuff really started working on the Internet,’ Karl said.
‘I remember seeing it on Today Tonight and going “Oh God.” I really was drunk, or at least I certainly looked and sounded drunk.’

In May, Ben also took a swipe at Karl live on the Today show, joking that he was paid ‘too much money’ after former co-anchor Lisa Wilkinson quit over pay parity.
However, the two presenters are known to be longtime friends and it’s understood Ben’s comments were made in good humour.
Ben is currently filling in for Karl on Today as he takes a holiday in Europe with his girlfriend Jasmine Yarbrough and billionaire James Packer.
No hard feelings? The pair are known to be long-time mates, with the cheeky comments believed to be in good humour among friends (Pictured: Ben, Lisa Wilkinson, and Karl in 2014)
