A three-year-old boy is recovering in hospital after allegedly being kicked in the face in a random attack in Sydney’s CBD.

The boy was in a stroller being pushed by his parents along King Street, when they were allegedly approached by an 18-year-old man about 11.30 on Friday night, according to New South Wales Police.

The man, who was not known to the couple, made a number of demands before police said he kicked the child in the face and ran off.

The boy’s father then chased the man but lost sight of him, before calling triple zero.

Police found the man about 12.45am on Saturday in Martin Place after security guards alerted them regarding the man’s erratic behaviour. 

He was taken to Sydney City Police Station and was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

He was refused bail by police, and will appear at Parramatta Bail Court on Saturday.

The young boy was taken to Sydney Eye Hospital for treatment to a cut lip and facial swelling.
