Touching moment a tourist gives money back to a Bali thief

  • The unusual gesture from a female Australian tourist was captured in Bali
  • Upon catching the purported thief, she asked why the girl stole from her
  • The girl told the tourist it was because she couldn’t afford to buy petrol
  • So the tourist gave her some money and told her never to steal again

The vast majority of pickpocket victims react with anger.

But this tourist in Bali took pity on the young woman she seemingly caught stealing her wallet, and gave her some money so she could buy some petrol for her moped instead.

The female Australian tourist told the purported thief, ‘I forgive you, but do not do this ever again’ and let this be a ‘lesson.’

It is not known how the thief, who appears to be in her teens or 20s, was apprehended for taking the tourists the wallet, but the footage starts in the immediate aftermath.

It was shared to Facebook and has been watched more than 30,000 times since it was uploaded earlier this month.

In the video, locals are seen standing around discussing the incident as the pickpocket stands with her head down next to her moped.

When asked by the victim why she took her wallet, the thief apparently explains she did it because she couldn’t afford petrol.

She then told the purported thief, 'I forgive you, but do not to do this ever again'

‘Do you have family here?’ the tourist asks, before getting some cash out and handing it to the woman, who bows repeatedly in gratitude.

The tourist then says she forgives her, but says sternly: ‘Do not do this ever again, let this be a lesson’.

She then gestures to the crowd to move them out of the way as the woman speeds off on her moped.

Neither of the women involved have been identified.
