Trump makes intentional typo about Lisa Page defying House Subpoena

Donald Trump took to Twitter Wednesday to blast former FBI agent Lisa Page after she failed to appear before a closed-door session of the House Judiciary Committee.

Trump wrote in the tweet, which included a seemingly intentional typo: ‘Ex-FBI LAYER Lisa Page today defied a House of Representatives issued Subpoena to testify before Congress! Wow, but is anybody really surprised!

‘Together with her lover, FBI Agent Peter Strzok, she worked on the Rigged Witch Hunt, perhaps the most tainted and corrupt case EVER!’

Page’s texts about the president with her FBI lover Strzok caused a firestorm and were used by the president and his Republican allies to complain the Russia investigation was rigged.

Page’s lawyer Amy Jeffress said in a statement the subpoena was issued before Page was able to view the materials that had been produced to Congress.

‘Lisa and I went to the FBI today to review the materials that were previously produced to Congress relating to her proposed interview, but after waiting for more than three hours, we were not provided with any documents,’ Jeffress said.

‘We have asked the Committees to schedule another date that would allow sufficient time for her to prepare. The Committees have not honored this request. As a result, Lisa is not going to appear for an interview at this time.’

Page’s decision is sure to provoke Congress’ ire and the committee could move to hold her in contempt of Congress.

House Speaker Paul Ryan said he was willing to hold her in contempt.

‘Congressional subpoenas for testimony are not optional,’ he said. ‘She was a part of a mess that they have uncovered over at DOJ. She has an obligation to come testify.’

He added: ‘If she wants to come plead the Fifth, that’s her choice. But a subpoena to testify before Congress is not optional. It’s mandatory. She needs to comply.’

But her lawyer said Page will testify at some point.

Page has ‘made it abundantly clear that she will cooperate’ with the congressional investigation, Jeffress told CBS News.

‘All she is asking is to be treated as other witnesses have under the Committees’ own rules,’ Jeffress said.

Strzok, meanwhile, is scheduled to testify publicly on Thursday before a joint hearing of the House Judiciary and Oversight committees.

The two agents, who were having an extra marital affair, were members of special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation, which Trump routinely refers to as a ‘witch hunt,’ and examining both Russia’s role in the 2016 election along with being part of probe into Hillary Clinton’s email server.

Trump slammed them as he was in route to Belgium for a meeting with NATO leaders, mocking them on Tuesday for getting ‘cold feet’ about testifying before Congress.

‘I am on Air Force One flying to NATO and hear reports that the FBI lovers, Peter Strzok and Lisa Page are getting cold feet on testifying about the Rigged Witch Hunt headed by 13 Angry Democrats and people that worked for Obama for 8 years. Total disgrace!,’ Trump wrote on Twitter.

The president has repeatedly painted Mueller’s investigation as a tainted witch-hunt led by Democrats.

Mueller, a registered Republican who was appointed by Republican deputy attorney general Rob Rosenstein to investigate. Of the 17 team members, 13 are registered Democrats, according to reports.

The special counsel’s team has already issued 20 indictments and secured guilty pleas from five individuals.

The first big case on Mueller’s agenda comes later this month with his indictment Trump’s former campaign chairman Paul Manafort on an array of charges including money laundering, bank fraud, tax evasion, failure to improperly register as an agent of a foreign government and witness tampering.

A report from the Department of Justice Inspector General examined the texts between the two agents as part of its overall look at the Russia probe and concluded there was no political motivation in any of the actions taken by investigators.

But it also outlined conversations between Strzok and Page that had never before seen the light of day.

In one message on August 8, 2016, Strzok reassured Page that she needn’t worry about Trump winning the White House.

Trump is ‘not ever going to become president, right? Right?!’ Page texted Strzok.

‘No. No he’s not. We’ll stop it,’ he responded.

Strzok was removed from Mueller’s team when the texts were discovered last year. Page left it voluntarily shortly after she joined the team and eventually left the FBI.

Strzok was interviewed in closed session with lawmakers for 11 hours last month and his lawyer has asked the transcript be made public.
