Trump punching bag Jeff Zucker signs on to stay at helm of CNN

CNN President Jeff Zucker will stay on at the helm of the cable news giant through the 2020 election

CNN President Jeff Zucker will stay on at the helm of the cable news giant through the 2020 election, it has been reported.

Zucker, who joined CNN in 2013 after a successful stint as president and CEO of NBC Universal, signed a contract extension months ago.

News of Zucker’s contract was first reported by Vanity Fair.

CNN has seen a surge in viewership thanks in large part to the political rise of Donald Trump, but it is still trailing Fox News and MSNBC in overall audience.

The network is a frequent target of Trump, who has given it the label ‘Fake News.’

Trump has also on occasion tweeted about Zucker himself, with whom he has a past relationship.

When Zucker was president of NBC, one of the network’s ratings winners was The Apprentice, the reality show in which Trump played a businessman who judges up-and-coming entrepreneurs.

But CNN’s antagonistic coverage of Trump has angered the president and his supporters, who have taken aim at some of the network’s most influential personalities, including anchor Jake Tapper, White House correspondent Jim Acosta, anchor Don Lemon, and primetime host Chris Cuomo.

CNN’s parent company got some good news on Tuesday.

Time Warner, which owns the all-news network, will merge with telecom-broadband giant AT&T.

A federal judge ruled on Tuesday that the $85billion merger can go ahead after the government claimed that it would violate antitrust laws.

It is widely believed that the Justice Department’s objections to the merger really stemmed from Trump’s antipathy toward CNN.

In the months leading up to the merger’s announcement, there was speculation that Zucker would be pushed out the door once AT&T took over.

But Vanity Fair is reporting that AT&T executives were made aware of contract negotiations with Zucker months ago and that they support keeping him in place.
