Twitter reacts to Storm Hector as it brings bad weather to UK

Social media exploded today as Storm Hector uprooted trees, devastated back gardens and created travel chaos across parts of the UK.

But while ‘risk to life’ warnings are in place in Northern Ireland, southern parts of England and Wales haven’t felt the wrath of the storm – taking to Twitter to mock extreme weather advice.

Pictures of upturned garden chairs, trampolines and children’s toys have appeared on social media with fittingly sarcastic captions.

Storm Hector has brought devastation to Northern Ireland, parts of Scotland and northern England, with severe Met Office warnings in place for the region and winds of up to 70mph.

Fallen trees have blocked a section of Scotland’s busiest motorway the M8 at Erskine Bridge, while the A9 Dornoch Bridge was shut to high sided vehicles and pedestrians were stopped from using the Forth Road Bridge.

Train lines in Scotland and parts of north west England are suffering speed restrictions, delays and cancellations after trees and debris blocked the tracks.

People in northern areas are being warned not to go outside and prepare for power cuts.

But further south in England and Wales the rain is due to clear early on and be followed by sunny intervals.

It is likely to be sunny for the Duchess of Sussex’s first engagement with the Queen in Chester today, with temperatures of 64F (18C) – although winds could still reach 25mph, with gusts of 35 mph.
