Two hero dogs rescue elderly woman lost in freezing cold

A pair of dogs ended up saving a woman’s life after she became lost and confused out in the snow in freezing temperatures.

Adam and Eva are brother and sister canines from Jackson County, Michigan but they also appear to have a sixth sense when it comes helping others.

It was on Saturday morning, just after 4:30am, when the dogs woke up their owners Susan and Lonnie Chester. The pair desperately wanted to go outside.

‘Adam has never tugged on my clothes before, so I was a cautious about letting them out because I didn’t know if there was anything out there,’ Lonnie said. ‘I opened the door. Eva squeezed out and Adam bolted past my truck,’ Lonnie said to WLNS.

In the driveway, the four-year-old labradoodles led him to a shocking discovery.

An 89-year-old woman dressed only in her night gown was lying in the ice and snow.

‘She looked up at me and said, ‘I’m so cold,”‘ Lonnie said. ‘I have no idea how long she had been out there. She must have been terrified.’

‘I go, “oh my god!” and I looked at this lady,’ Lonnie said before picking her up, taking her back inside the home, putting her under some blankets on the couch and calling 911.

The woman had come from a neighbor’s house but fallen in the driveway.

‘She was confused, very confused,’ the couple said.

Her family had been searching for her for several hours but couldn’t find her.

It was only when they saw emergency vehicles in the Chesters’ driveway that they realized what had happened.

The family had apparently been out looking for her but did not see her as she was lying in the snow in the near total darkness.

Had it not been for the incredible senses of the dogs, the woman would surely have frozen to death outside.

The National Weather Service says the temperature was around 9 degrees (-12 Celsius) at the time.

‘Our dogs may have saved a life. I mean, they really possibly did save this woman’s life,’ Susan said. ‘I do find these dogs to be exceptionally intelligent,’ she continued. ‘They are really important in our lives. We’re proud of them.’

‘Was it sound, was it smell, maybe it was a combination of both,’ Susan asked. ‘They just pick up on things so quickly. They pay attention to everything that’s going on.’

Susan said that a similar situation happened with her own mother.

‘We need reminders like this as a wakeup call. I really got to pay closer attention and really be mindful. Especially if you’re caring for elderly parents or relatives who aren’t completely present with all their faculties,’ Susan said.
