UEFA says it is taking no action against Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos for a clash with Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius in the Champions League final.

A disciplinary rule which allows cases to be opened for serious misconduct not seen by the match officials ‘is not applied in this case,’ UEFA says.

Ramos struck Karius’s head with his right elbow in an off-the-ball incident when the score was 0-0 early in the second half of Madrid’s 3-1 win on Saturday.

Television replays also appeared to show Ramos being pushed toward Karius by Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk.

UEFA says: ‘No other protest has been lodged.’

Ramos angered fans of Liverpool and Egypt for his earlier challenge that ended Mohamed Salah’s game due to an injured left shoulder, and almost 500,000 fans have signed a petition for him to be punished.

A Change.org petition to FIFA and UEFA calling for Sergio Ramos to be punished for his part in Mohamed Salah’s Champions League final injury has reached over 455,000 signatures

The issue was sustained during a tussle with Ramos, who appeared to lock arms with the influential former Chelsea forward before an awkward landing.

Such an incident has divided opinion and sparked renewed debate regarding the Real captain’s defensive methods.

Siding with the likes of former Egypt striker Mido in believing that Ramos acted intentionally is the creator of a Change.org petition that is well on its way to hitting an intended target of 500,000 signatures by Tuesday afternoon.
