Unique bulldog tattoo led to the arrests of perpetrators

A bulldog tattoo led investigators to finding the men involved in a gang rape of a young teenager.

The 17-minute video was recorded on a GoPro camera in July 2015 at a house party in western Sydney and officers had the task of identifying the seven men and the 16-year-old victim.

NSW Child Abuse Squad detectives watched the footage over and over again until they spotted the tattoo on the leg of an offender. It was the one clue they had to try and track down the perpetrators, News Corp reported.

In a hunt which took six weeks, investigators trawled social media until they found the perpetrators, a group of married men, young fathers and one man on bail.

Kurt Stevenson, 27, a married father-of-one, shared a photo of himself getting a tattoo of a bulldog on his leg which detectives were able to use to bring down the men.

‘The primary objective when we initially got the job was identifying the victim and verifying her welfare,’ Child Abuse Squad Detective Chief Inspector Peter Yeomans told the publication.

The girl, who was 16 at the time, never reported the assault and does not fully understand what happened due to her incapacitated state at the time of the attack.

Under examination from Crown prosecutor Sharon Harris in NSW District Court, Ms Sinclair said the girl told officers she had ‘two cones of cannabis’ and was ‘made a drink’.

‘I didn’t want to drink it but I did,’ the constable recalled the girl saying.

The jury heard the teenager told police she ‘blacked out’ for a few hours, ‘woke up naked’ and was ‘bleeding from her vagina and her anus’.

Detectives who found the teenager and her mother were ‘very cautious’ about what they told her because they didn’t want to taint her memory.
