Victoria bushfires force 150 wedding guests to shelter

A wedding party came to a complete standstill on Saturday when the Victorian bushfires came dangerously close to threatening lives.

The couple and 150 terrified guests escaped to a brick stable before leaving on a bus.

Elle Moyle, who was hosting the wedding, told the ABC the flames were only 100 metres away and the ‘winds were crazy.’

‘We smelled the smoke at the venue and within 10 minutes the sky was completely red,’ she told the publication. 

The situation was ‘touch and go’ as the fire reached the property and wiped out her brother’s house.

‘We did our best to keep everyone safe and get them out of there but it was very touch and go.

‘Then right at the dying hour the bus driver showed up so were able to get everyone safely out on the bus.’  

The bride, a rural girl, was still in her wedding dress as the flames came dangerously close.  

The bushfires reportedly caused by lightning in ‘dynamic’ weather conditions, destroyed dozens of homes in South Western Victoria. 

 Hundreds of beef and dairy cattle, and farm buildings, have also been destroyed, and 40,000 hectares of land burnt.
