Video of investigators recreating the murder of Chris Watts’ daughter

WARNING GRAPHIC VIDEO

In the days after Chris Watts told agents with the Colorado Bureau of Investigation that he had murdered his wife after he witnessed her smother their daughter, investigators went to the home to recreate the scene.

DailyMail.com was able to obtain one of those videos after filing a request under the Colorado Open Records Act, which shows an investigator smothering and choking a life-sized doll meant to represent the couple’s older daughter Celeste.

The act is filmed from the baby monitor in Watts’ bedroom, which is where  and how he claimed to have witnessed the act.

The initial affidavit filed in the case read: ‘Chris stated after he told Shanann he wanted a separation, he walked downstairs for a moment and then returned to his bedroom to speak with Shanann again.

‘While in the bedroom, via baby monitor located on Shannan’s night stand, he observed Bella “sprawled” out on her bed and blue and Shanann actively strangling Celeste.’

That is when he claimed that ‘he went into a rage and ultimately strangled Shanann to death.’

He would recant that story two months later when he entered a guilty plea to all three deaths.

DailyMail.com also obtained photos of the plot where Watts dumped his wife’s body after killing her and their unborn son.

He dug a hole eight inches in the ground after wrapping her in a sheet from their bed and driving her body and those of daughters Bella and Celeste out to a remote oil field in Colorado.

The coroner in the case previously reported that Shanann was found with the fetus of her son in her underwear when her body was exhumed by investigators, after suffering a prolapsed uterus that was brought on by her gruesome death.

Over the weekend, video also emerged of Watts stopping to grab breakfast after disposing of his family’s bodies.

The 33-year-old father and husband is seen on surveillance footage taken at a Colorado convenience store at 8am on the morning of August 13, picking up a sandwich and chatting with the cashier.

Watts can be seen in the video clip wearing an orange T-shirt with sunglasses perched atop his baseball cap as he takes his change and puts it into his wallet before walking away from the counter.

His calm and collected demeanor bellies the fact that he had just dumped the bodies of his daughters Bella, four, and Celeste, three, in an oil tank and buried his pregnant wife Shanann, 34, in a shallow grave in a crude oil field where Watts worked.

Shanann, who was 15 weeks pregnant, and the girls would all be found two days later after a statewide manhunt, after Watts reported them missing and made shifty television appearances pleading for them to come home.

Watts pleaded guilty to murdering his wife and daughters last month after striking a deal with prosecutors that would take the death penalty off the table.

On November 19, Watts was sentenced to five consecutive life sentences for his crimes.

In the days since his sentencing, authorities have been releasing a number of files related to the case, including police station footage of Watts telling his father that he ‘freaked out’ and murdered his wife.

Among the recently released evidence is also chilling surveillance footage which was captured by Watts’ neighbor, showing Watts leaving his suburban Denver home on August 13 at about 5.30am to dispose of the bodies.

He was captured emerging from the home and backing his truck up into the garage before later driving off down the driveway.

Changing his tune: He would later recant that story when he entered a guilty plea and said he was responsible for all three deaths as well as the death of his unborn son

DailyMail.com also exclusively revealed that investigators searching through Watts’ mistress Nichol Kessinger’s phone discovered that she had searched for wedding dresses a week before the murders and Googled ‘anal sex’ for 45 minutes prior to her last date with Watts, the night before the murders.

The final Google search conducted by Kessinger that was noted by investigators came after the murders of August 19 when she looked into how much money Amber Frey — mistress of convicted wife-killer Scott Peterson — made in her tell-all book deal and her net worth, while also searching ‘did people hate Amber Frey.’

A search of Watts’ phone, meanwhile, found thousands of hidden photos in a secret calculator app that was only accessed by typing in a four digit code. A number of those pics showed a nude or semi-naked Kessinger.

Authorities also released hours of interview footage in the case, including the moment Watts was told he had failed a polygraph test.

Video of the moment reveals that Watts managed to keep his composure after he was very bluntly told by a member of the Colorado Bureau of Investigations that his answers were not truthful.

That agent then began the process of trying to draw a confession of out of Watts, who after talking for some time eventually shut down the interview and demanded to see his father, Ronnie.

Watts then confessed to killing Shanann to Ronnie, who stayed in the interrogation room as the two agents returned, rubbing his son’s back while he told them he had murdered his wife.
