Woman crashes after mixing up pedals during driving test

This is the shocking moment a 66-year-old woman mixed up the pedals during a driving test and almost crashed into a group of people.

The test was caught on CCTV security cameras in the city of Berisso in the eastern province of Buenos Aires, Argentina.

The footage shows the moment the woman mixes up her accelerator pedal with her brake during a driving test and reverses at high speed into the container cabin being used as a base by driving test examiners – sending people fleeing in panic. 

Fortunately, nobody was injured in the accident, although the woman, whose name has not been released, suffered an anxiety attack and needed treatment.

The footage starts with the woman attempting to manoeuvre an Opel Corsa car around a slalom course. 

She pulls up but then suddenly shoots backwards, sending onlookers diving for cover, as the car smashes into the cabin.

It was a near miss for an employee inside the cabin, who just about managed to jump outside before the car crashed into the building. 

Witnesses said the woman had been attempting to demonstrate parking skills when she got nervous and mixed up her accelerator with her brake. 

The woman suffered an anxiety attack after the incident and paramedics were called to the scene to treat her. 

Motorists in Argentina regularly have to renew their driving licences and have to show that their driving skills are still up to scratch. 

Claudio Crivaro, driving licence exams coordinator in the city of Berisso, said: ‘We were taking exams as normal when the lady went backwards and instead of using her brakes, she hit the gas.’
