Would you freeze your Christmas dinner?

Slaving away in the kitchen is not everybody’s idea of fun on Christmas Day, but TV chef Phil Vickery claims to have devised perfect hassle-free hack for all cooks.

For those who have drawn the short straw prepping food for their families, Phil says people shouldn’t be afraid of cooking the day before and sticking vegetables in the fridge or freezer.

‘All the other vegetables like carrots, parsnips, brussels, I cook the day before,’ he revealed during a cooking segment on This Morning on Tuesday.

The comment stunned Holly Willoughby, who asked Phil to repeat himself before adding: ‘That’s amazing.’

Viewers at home were torn between the idea of prepping too far ahead of time so they would have to spend less time in the kitchen and soggy veg.

But there were some that were not pleased with the suggestion and told the TV chef he had got it 'wrong'

One fumed: ‘Phil Vickery just said on This Morning you can cook veg day before than microwave on Xmas day! Surely not? Sort him out!’

Another said: ‘NO NO NO wrong wrong wrong no microwaved food in my house.. Nothing like the smell of veg and meat on Christmas morning with a glass of Vino.. Just wrong fella clip yourself round the ear.’

But others were in agreement with the TV chef, sharing their own hacks: ‘Tips for getting ahead. Last year I cooked my roast potatoes as you advised but took them out after 25 mins then froze them. On the day 30 mins in the oven you wouldn’t have known.’

Even BBC DJ Chris Evans confessed on his radio show last year, that his wife had cooked their potatoes ahead of Christmas Day and it had been a success.

Even presenter Holly Willoughby was left shocked by the chef's revelation that he just popped everything in the microwave when it came time to serve up

He had pre-cooked their roasts left them to cool completely then put them in a hot oven for four minutes and said they were ‘better then I’ve ever had before’.

Vickery refuted any suggestions that the vegetables would go soggy, but did add that people should be careful about prepping their potatoes beforehand, because parboiling and putting them in the fridge will turn them grey.

He advised one viewer named Dorothy who was preparing three different meats for her dinner to cook her gammon the day before, and keep the beef and turkey to cook on the day.

The debate has been a hot topic on Mumsnet for years, with many users sharing how they peel and chop veg and freeze to cut down on time spent in the kitchen.
