And when it comes to creating an eye-catching online profile it can be hard to know where to start.

Luckily help is at hand for singletons struggling to describe themselves as a new study has revealed the buzz words most likely to help you attract a partner on the net.

Dating service Match has scoured the most successful profiles on its site to reveal the ‘trigger words’ most likely to bag you a date.

The company analysed the text in the ‘About Me’ section of their website to reveal the words that appear most frequently in its top profiles.

And despite widespread concern about ‘ghosting’, ‘benching’ and hook-up culture, it is the word ‘love’ which is most commonly used within the profiles of successful daters on the site, both male and female.

Not far behind this was ‘fun’, which was used frequently by both males and females. However, finding someone ‘funny’ was more important to single ladies than to men.

Within the top female profiles, personal relationships are key, with the words ‘friends’ and ‘family’ placing high in the list.

Words that scored highly on women’s profiles showed off a sense of fun, with ‘laugh’ and ‘happy’ also appearing higher on the list than men’s. Many of the most popular females also used the word ‘shy’.

The most popular men don’t shy away from tradition with ‘romance’ placing much higher on the list compared to women and chivalrous traits of ‘kind’, ‘open’ and ‘loyal’ being very important.

For the most successful male profiles many of the words echo that of women’s profiles, aside from ‘easy’ working its way up the list showing men’s laid-back nature. 

The top men also described being ‘outgoing’ and ‘positive’, and perhaps surprisingly, ‘nice’ – proving that nice guys do win out. Like women, they are also looking for humour with ‘laugh’ and ‘happy’ making it into the list.

Sport plays a big part for the most admired males, with ‘fit’, ‘outdoors’, ‘active’, ‘walking’ and ‘gym’ being some of the recurring popular words used, all placing higher than on women’s profiles.
