A possible road rage incident led to a shooting that wounded two people on Florida’s turnpike Saturday morning, according to the highway patrol.

Sgt. Kim Montes said in a news release that the shooting happened about 10.15am Saturday near Winter Garden. 

The victims are a man and woman, 37 and 17, who were driving southbound in a red Chevy Impala when someone opened fire on their car, the highway patrol told ABC News.

The victims were taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center with minor injuries. An update on their condition wasn’t immediately available but doctors told the outlet they were hit directly by any bullets, but instead injured by broken glass and metal fragments.

Their car had 12 bullet holes on its right side, according to ABC. 

Troopers are now searching for the suspect shooter, who is said to be driving a gray Toyota Camry. 

Montes did not immediately say why officials believe road rage may have triggered the shooting. No further details were immediately available.

She said all lanes of the turnpike are open, adding that no one is permitted to stop along the roadway while the investigation is underway.
