2Day FM’s Grant Denyer scared of Em Rusciano, not ratings

Grant Denyer seems to have Drake in one ear, and David Bowie in the other.

On Thursday, the newest edition to 2Day FM’s low-rating breakfast show insisted starting from the bottom meant any positive result and they’d ‘be heroes’.

In fact, the Em, Grant & Ed co-host admitted to The Daily Telegraph on Wednesday that his biggest fear isn’t failure – it’s Em Rusciano.

'She terrifies me' he admitted of his radio partner

‘Terrifies me’: Pint-sized new 2day FM breakfast radio star Grant Denyer has admitted he’s terrified of co-host Em Rusciano, NOT low ratings

‘She’s intimidating for a little boy from the bush like me,’ he told the publication.

The Family Feud host confessed his boisterous co-host ‘terrifies’ him on a daily basis.

‘She calls me a fabulous bogan. Maybe it’s because I live on a farm and race cars… she’s smart, she’s loud, she’s captivating, and I’m little,’ he said.

In the interest of prosperity, it’s a good thing Grant isn’t ‘terrified’ by the fact he’s entered a show that’s never experienced ratings as low as they are now.

Years of failed breakfast team groupings – from Sam Frost and Rove McManus, to Sophie Monk, Mel B, Merrick Watts and Jules Lund – have preceded his entrance.

He told the publication the fact his new show was at the ‘bottom of the pile’ was exciting.

‘If we found some ground, we’d be heroes and it would feel awesome to turn this ship around or  at least be a small piece of the solution,’ he said.

Loud? Whose loud? 'She calls me a fabulous bogan. Maybe it's because I live on a farm and race cars... she's smart, she's loud, she's captivating, and I'm little,' he said

‘We’d only have to find one or two (ratings percentage points) and we’re heroes… this is a long-term plan.’

Hopefully the trio of Em, Grant and Ed Kavalee get the time to enact their long-term salvation plan for the network.

Ever since Kyle and Jackie O jumped ship to KIIS FM in 2013, none of their replacement breakfast hosts have lasted more than a year-and-a-half.

In five years, 11 different co-hosts have either quit or been fired from the breakfast show, with their most recent result of 2.8 per cent of the market the lowest it’s been.
