5 children killed in mobile home fire in southern Missouri

Five children were killed and a woman injured in a mobile home fire in southern Missouri.

The fire broke out around 9am Wednesday morning in Lebanon, a city of about 14,500 people.

Lebanon police detective Sgt. Kacie Springer said the six people were trapped in the home and had to be pulled out by firefighters.

The injured woman was flown to a hospital in Springfield, about 50 miles southwest of Lebanon. Her condition is not known.

The names of the victims were not immediately released, pending notification of next of kin.

Officials said the children ranged in age from about six-months-old to five-years-old.

Missouri Department of Public Safety spokesman Mike O’Connell said in an email that three state investigators are on scene trying to determine what caused the fire.

Lebanon Fire Chief Sam Schneider said it was uncertain whether there were smoke alarms installed in the home.

Neighbor Cynthia Miller told the Springfield News-Leader that she believes the family were renters.
