5 Seconds Of Summer make Billboard 200 history as their third album Youngblood takes out No.1 spot

5 Second Of Summer (5SOS) have become No. 1 in the US.

The Australian-raised hunks’ third album Youngblood topped the coveted Billboard 200 charts this week, after it was release on June 15.

While an impressive feat in its own right, the top spot also makes the four piece the first band in Billboard history to have their first three studio albums go No.1.

Taking to Twitter, the band thanked their fans: ‘Today you made history for 4 young men, and you are every reason why we feel like the luckiest people alive.’

‘Youngblood is a certified billboard #1 album in America. You came together as people to get us our 3rd number one record for all the right reasons.’

Their top spot on the Billboard charts was due to earning more than 142,000 equivalent album units in the week ending June 21.

5SOS is now the only band (not vocal group) in chart history to see its first three full-length studio albums enter the Billboard (200) at No. 1.

They’ve also become the first Australian act to secure the top spot for their first three albums.

They first rose to fame in 2011 by releasing cover songs on YouTube, releasing their self-titled debut studio album in 2014, and Sounds Good Feels Good album in 2015.

The band celebrated the third album’s release with a performance on the Plaza in New York earlier this month, which was broadcast on NBC’s Today Show.

The title song is a smash hit, with cumulative worldwide streams already surpassing 200 million. Youngblood has taken the No. 1 slot on both Apple Music’s biggest pop ‘Today’s Hits’ playlist, and Spotify’s ‘Today’s Top Hits’ playlist.

This US chart success mirrors Australia, where Youngblood debuted at No. 1 on the ARIA Albums Chart, their third consecutive chart-topping debut. With single Youngblood holding at No. 1 for a fifth week in a row
