Elise Dorr, five, was shot and killed at her grandparent’s home in Scarborough, Maine

A five-year-old girl was shot to death while inside her grandparent’s home in Maine. 

Elise Dorr, of Belfast, died Monday evening shortly after arriving at Maine Medical Center.

Police were called to the home at 7:30pm where detectives say the girl was staying with her two parents and two older sisters in Scarborough while her grandparents were away.

Parents Todd and Virginia Dorr were both home during the shooting but it is unclear how the situation unfolded and if it was accidental.

State police spokesman Steven McCausland said interviews are being conducted. 

Officials searched the two-bedroom home throughout the night gathering evidence.  

No one has been arrested or charged yet and the gun was recovered at the scene.

An autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
