60 students miss school over teacher’s ‘buying a gun’ post

A Pennsylvania teacher’s gleeful Facebook post about ‘buying a gun’ sparked panic at a suburban elementary school, causing 60 students to miss class. 

According to a statement released by the Brentwood School District in suburban Pittsburgh, about a quarter of Moore Elementary’s students were either kept home from school or were picked up early on Friday because of the social media post. 

KDKA reports that students who did show up for classes at Moore Elementary were kept inside during recess and borough police were notified.

The Facebook status update that raised concerns for the safety of students and staff read: ‘I’m going shopping sat. Who wants to go. I’m buying a gun. Watch out world. Hahahaha.’

The district isn’t identifying the teacher who posted the status update or saying what might happen to her.

The district promised to inform parents of the results of an investigation that was continuing Monday.

A school police officer also escorted kindergartners on a field trip that day. 

‘Rest assured, the District takes these types of situations very seriously and remains committed to the safety of our students and staff as our first priority,’ Dr Burch’s letter concluded. 

DailyMail,com on Monday reached out to the superintendent for comment and was awaiting a reply.   

Moore Elementary is a public school that has 225 students enrolled in grades K-5.
