£80,000 Range Rover once owned by the Royal Family to go under the hammer tomorrow

A Range Rover owned by the Royal Family and believed to have been driven by Prince Charles is going under the hammer tomorrow following a full restoration.

The three-door 1975 Range Rover was registered to the Royal Household and believed to have been delivered to Windsor Castle.

The Queen has owned every model of Range Rover since the early 1970s when the marque was first unveiled to the public.

A 1975 Range Rover once owned by the Royal Family and kept at Windsor has been fully restored to its former glory and will go under the hammer tomorrow at Silverstone Race track

The 8-cylinder 3.5 litre engine has been fully refurbished along with the body and interior at a cost of more than £60,000.

A Heritage Certificate proves that the Royal Family owned the car – which had a large sunroof, which was popular with the Royals as they could stand up in the rear and wave at people.

The car – which is estimated at between £70,000 and £80,000 – will be sold by Silverstone Auctions at the legendary race track.

According to Silverstone Auctions: ‘Archival photographs through to present day show The Queen and her family at the wheel or alighting from a Range Rover more so than any other model of car.

‘With the Highland estate of Balmoral more suited to the ruggedness of the Land Rover, the cultivated grounds of Windsor Castle were more suited to the Range Rover. With personal and official appearances at the Windsor Horse Show, Guards Polo and other outdoor events, the Royal Family were more often than not seen at the wheel of a Range Rover, especially back in the 1970s, invariably be finished in Lincoln Green and sporting a bespoke Webasto full-length sunroof.

‘Whether driven by Prince Charles during his courtship with the late Diana, Prince Philip nonchalantly standing on the rear tailgate, or picking their Royal Highnesses Prince and Princess Michael of Kent up from Heathrow, period photographs abound in online archives.’

The car was rescued from a farm in Worcester in 2013 when the new owner was told that the car had been owned by the Royal Family.

It took more than 1,000 hours to compete the restoration which has returned the car to its former glory.
