80s heartthrob from one of Australia’s best films is unrecognisable today

In 1992, he put on a steamy performance in a film that remains in the top ten highest grossing Australian productions ever.

But these days, he doesn’t steam, he smokes – meat that is.

After the movie grossed $80 million worldwide, the now 54-year-old didn’t get paid a cent, quickly shifting focus to his second love: smoked meats and condiments.

Guess Who? He was an 90s heartthrob who lost the competition but won hearts in one of Australia’s highest grossing films… but can YOU still pick him as an unrecognisable 54-year-old?

In August 2017, after years of hard work, he finally unleashed his passion project on the world: Beerlicious Condiments.

According to Meatstock, the range features ‘a hot beer mustard and a beetroot and stout chutney along with a range of four Rubs for spicing things up on the BBQ.’

A lot has changed since the man best known as Scott Hastings won hearts, but lost the dance competition in 1992.

Naturally, he wouldn’t just go from dancing up a storm in the 90s, to smoking up a ham in 2018.

In fact, the Swan Hill, Victoria resident was actually a judge on both the Australian and New Zealand version of Network Seven’s now defunct Dancing With The Stars.

His list of achievements are impressive and varied, just like his not ‘strictly’ appropriate dance moves in Baz Luhrmann’s beloved epic.

He may have lost his hair, but Paul Mercurio – the star of Strictly Ballroom – has never lost his spirit.

Not even after his appearance on Rove McManus’ Show Me The Movie! last Monday, where a comedian referred to him as ‘more like Strictly Baldroom!’

In the 1992 film, Paul played Scott Hastings, who failed to win at the Pan Pacifics, despite being the better dancer.

While he may have had no chance at winning the ‘rigged’ tournament, he had no such issue winning the hearts of women worldwide shortly after the film’s release.

All smiles! He even remained positive on Rove McManus' Show Me The Movie! last Monday, where a comedian referred to him as 'more like Strictly Baldroom!'
