9 intimate relationships you might have missed from Spare

After being evicted from Frogmore Cottage Prince Harry is expected to fire ‘plenty of ammunition’ at his family in a Q&A promoting his memoir today, but it’s just the latest in a long line of disclosures.

Gabor Maté, 79, will join the Duke of Sussex on Saturday for an ‘intimate’ £17-a-head virtual conference to discuss ‘living with loss and the importance of personal healing’, followed by a live Q&A.

The two will discuss ‘living with loss and the importance of personal healing’, after Harry’s memoir was dominated by his account of struggling to come to terms with the loss of his mother Princess Diana.

However, the book also raised eyebrows with intimate revelations about his frost-nipped penis, and alluding to having sex with Meghan at Soho House.

While Harry’s comments about his ‘todger’ grabbed headlines around the world, there was no shortage of highly personal titbits shared in the book.

Here, Femail reveals the 9 most intriguing revelations you might have missed, from Harry’s claim that the Queen’s spirit visited him as a hummingbird, to how he ‘peed his pants’ right before his first date with Meghan.

1. ‘Peed his pants’ before his first date with Meghan

Harry needed a wee during a five-hour boat race with no toilet, after getting ‘stage fright’, he peed himself before meeting Meghan for the first time at Soho House

Before his very first date with Meghan, who he’d been introduced to via Instagram, Harry took part in a five hour sailing race, where there was no toilet on-board.

He then needed the toilet, so attempted to relieve himself into the sea but got ‘stage fright’ and couldn’t do it.

‘Finally I went back to my post, sheepishly hung from the ropes, and peed my pants,’ he wrote: ‘Wow, I thought, if Ms. Markle could see me now.’

The Duke washed his soiled trousers in the water and rush back to London to meet Meghan.

2. William planned to shave Harry on his stag do

As Harry reminisced about his stag do, he wrote that William had planned to shave off his beard during the festivities.

Earlier in the book, Harry claimed that his brother was jealous and ‘livid’ because the Queen had allowed him to keep his beard for his wedding, while William had to shave his off when he tied the knot with Kate, in accordance with royal protocol.

Harry said he wanted to de-stress and have fun on the stag do, but was worried that if he got too inebriated and blacked out, that he would wake up rather fresh-faced.

To avoid this happening he kept an eye on ‘Willy’ while he tried to enjoy his party.

Queen comes back as a hummingbird

The Duke of Sussex wrote that he wished he could say ‘one more goodbye’ to his grandmother after arriving at Balmoral too late to see her before she died.

Back at home in California after the funeral, a hummingbird managed to get into his Montecito home, which Harry did not initially think anything of, before one of his friends said that it could be ‘a sign’.

According to Harry’s friend, Spanish explorers called hummingbirds ‘resurrection birds’.

He then questioned whether he had just had a visit from the late Queen, writing: ‘I thought hopefully, greedily, foolishly: Is our house a detour—or a destination?’

He then thought about letting the bird stay before deciding against it and setting it free instead.

Harry wrote of the Queen's feelings on his children: 'She'd expected them to be a bit more…American, I think? Meaning, in her mind, more rambunctious'

What the Queen thought of Archie and Lilibet

In Spare, Harry recalled a bittersweet memory – the last time his son Archie and his daughter Lilibet (named after his grandmother) saw the Queen before her passing.

He said that Archie was bowing to the late monarch while Lilibet attached herself to the Queen’s shins.

His grandmother was delighted and desribed them as the ‘sweetest children’.

Holding Meghan’s hair back while she was sick

Prince Harry also wrote about the time where Meghan met his cousin Eugenie and her now-husband Jack Brooksbank.

Meghan had cooked them salmon and they spoke about a number of topics, including Suits and where she had travelled to.

They then moved onto drinking tequila and shortly after, Meghan said she was not feeling well and went to bed early.

While Harry initially thought she was a ‘lightweight’, he woke up to hear his future wife throwing up in the bathroom.

It then emerged that the Duchess had eaten squid at a restaurant for lunch and Harry held back her hair while she was vomiting.

He wrote: ‘I rubbed her back and eventually put her to bed. Weak, near tears, she said she’d imagined a very different end to Date Four.’

Charles listens to ‘storybooks’ in the bath

The future King’s bathtime habits also got a mention in Harry’s memoir, as he revealed how Charles liked to take a portable CD player to the bathroom with him.

He recalled an incident from childhood, saying: ‘Pa was carrying his “wireless,” which is what he called his portable CD player, on which he liked to listen to his “storybooks” while soaking.’

The Queen wore ear plugs to block out music at her Diamond Jubilee concert

Paul McCartney sang ‘Her Majesty’ and Brian May, the lead guitarist of Queen played ‘God Save the Queen’ at  a concert to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

And while Harry was suffering with a headache, he looked over to the late monarch who was dancing away and not growing tired.

On closer inspection, Harry said he noticed that the Queen could not hear anything, because she wore yellow coloured earplugs to block out the ‘loud’ music.

He wrote: ‘More than ever before, I wanted to give my Granny a hug.’

Harry got stoned after his first date with Meghan

In his book, the Duke of Sussex wrote that he met up with a friend after his date with Meghan and smoked weed.

He said that he told his mate about how it went and then ‘out came the tequila. Out came the weed.’

They sat and watched the cartoon film Inside Out and Harry described himself as feeling numb before writing: ‘good weed dude’.

He then panicked as he recieved an impromptu video call from his future wife, which he answered.

Harry said that he ‘loved’ Meghan’s freckles before she went on to claim that they would be edited out ‘every time’ she got snapped.

The King’s favourite aftershave

Prince Harry revealed in his memoir his father’s favourite fragrance to wear, Dior’s Eau Sauvage, which he would ‘slather’ on.

Harry said the aftershave was ‘flowery, with a hint of something harsh, like pepper or gunpowder.’

He added that the bottle said that the product was made in Paris which made him ‘think of mummy’.
