- The New York Times ended up calling legendary performer Rita Morena a ‘guest’
- Moreno, 86, is a rare performer who has won Oscar, Tony, Grammy and Emmys
- The paper was covering arrivals of guests at the Golden Globe Awards
- Shortly afterwards the Times acknowledged its error and corrected the caption
The New York Times ended up calling legendary performer Rita Morena a ‘guest’ in one of its news articles on the 2018 Golden Globes ceremony on Sunday night.
The newspaper was covering the arrivals of some of the most famous names arriving for the event including Morena who arrived alongside television writer Norman Lear.
Moreno, 86, is one of the rare performers to win an Oscar, Tony, Grammy and Emmy which makes the Times’s description of her as just a mere ‘guest’ all the more embarrassing.

The screen icon currently stars on One Day at a Time but is best known for her role in West Side Story.
Twitter users were not impressed with the humiliating error.
‘NOOOOOOOOO. An acceptable rule of life and newspapers could be that anyone in Rita Moreno’s presence is automatically ‘and guest,’ but this is stupid and absurd,’ wrote one correspondent.

‘Rita Moreno is an American treasure, Puerto Rican legend, and childhood hero to thousands. She signed our first-ever Ocasio2018 rally sign last year. @NewYorkTimes please say her name,’ said another.
Within a few hours, the caption had been corrected on the New York Times website which it referred to on its Twitter feed.
‘The caption has long since been updated to properly acknowledge the wonderful Rita Morena,’ the paper wrote.
