Three killed in murder-suicide at Texas resort

  • Police were called to San Luis Resort in Galveston early Monday after guests heard popping sound from 8th-floor room 
  • Inside, officers found three bodies and one critically wounded person who later died at a hospital  
  • Resort representative says the murder-suicide involved a family  

Four people were fatally shot in an apparent murder-suicide at an upscale beachfront hotel in Southeast Texas.

Galveston Police Capt. Josh Schirard says the shootings were reported at around 4.30am on Monday at the four-star San Luis Resort, Spa and Conference Center in Galveston.

Schirard says another guest reported hearing a popping sound from a nearby room on the eighth floor and called the police.

Officers entered the deadbolted room and found three bodies, along with a fourth person, a woman, who was seriously wounded. The female victim was taken to University of Texas Medical Branch in critical condition, where she later died.

Schirard says the four people shot had been staying together in the room where the bodies were found.

Police have not released their names or other details, but KTRK reported, citing unnamed sources, that the people involved in the early-morning shooting were all related and there was at least one child among them. 

A representative of San Luis Resort’s parent company released a statement to KHOU on Monday afternoon confirming that the incident ‘appears to have been a murder-suicide amongst a family i their room.’
