A Michigan man allegedly shot his wife and step-daughter before turning the gun on himself on Saturday night, one day after having surgery to remove a brain tumor.
Dave and Lisa Somers, both 51, were found shot dead near their car Saturday evening on Interstate-96 near Lowell, Michigan, n what police are calling a murder suicide.
Police arrived at the scene to find the couple’s Chevrolet Equinox on the side of the road with the lift gate and passenger doors open, and the deceased victims next to it on the highway shoulder.
Lisa’s daughter Amedy Dewey, 18, was also shot and found lying in the back seat of the vehicle. She was taken to the hospital following the incident, according to MLive.

She was reported to be in stable but critical condition on Sunday, and hospital personnel declined to provide any further updates Monday morning, according to the news outlet.
Police haven’t released many details about the deaths or about a potential motive, but said that it is classified as an incident of a murder and a suicide.
A loaded gun was found underneath Dave’s body, according to Iona County police.
‘The entire family is in shock,’ one of Dave’s cousins Cherie Hall told MLive.
‘Dave was the kindest person on the face of the earth. This tragic occurrence is not the person everyone knew as my cousin Dave.’

And his daughter Shelbi Somers, 23, said she knew her father was planning to pick Lisa and Amedy up from the airport on Saturday night, explaining that they were returning from a trip to the Bahamas.
She said her father hadn’t gone on the trip because he was dealing with a brain tumor diagnosis for about a year and had an operation Friday morning to remove ‘most of’ the tumor through his naval cavity.
Her father said the tumor wasn’t cancerous, and that the prognosis was good. She also said she saw no changes in his behavior after the diagnosis or treatment.
The day of the incident Shelbi said was normal, and that she got a text from him that morning like she always does.
‘He texted me every day and just says he loves me and misses me,’ she told WoodTV. ‘So I got that text in the morning, just like a normal day.
She said she knew her her dad was headed to pick the pair up from the airport, but said she didn’t know what led up to the incident, and hadn’t hard anymore details from the police as of Monday morning.

Shelbi described her dad and step-mother, who were both 51, as outgoing people who were both fans of the Detroit Tigers and loved softball.
They got married in 2013 after meeting through a county-wide adult softball team.
‘They were just really well-known, good people,’ Shelbi told MLive.
‘My dad was a fun guy who would help anyone who needed help. Everyone knew who he was an liked him. He was a really good dad.’
Lisa had three children from prior relationships, her daughter Amedy and two sons, Adam and Dylan Helminiak.
Family and friends took to social media over the weekend to remember the couple and share messages of shock and condolence.
‘They will be very missed,’ one man wrote in a heartfelt Facebook post Sunday.
‘Both amazing great people and I don’t think it will ever make sense… Spent much time with them both and haad many a beers and many a laughs.’
One of their softball teammates created a GoFundMe to raise money for Amedy’s medical bills and Lisa’s funeral expenses.
