A teenage boy has been taken to hospital in Queensland after landing on a stingray while surfing.

The 15-year-old was surfing in murky water at west Noosa on Thursday when he jumped off his board and landed on the stingray.

The boy didn’t see the sea creature when he jumped in the water around 11.50am.

He initially thought the barb had gone into his foot, Sunshine Coast Daily reports.

A spokesperson for Surf Life Saving Queensland said the boy was in a lot of pain when he was treated at the scene, but the stingray barb did not enter his foot.

Instead, he was left with a cut and was taken to Noosa Hospital in a stable condition.
