‘I asked for fame but my family didn’t… it’s been hard on them!’ Alexandra Burke breaks down in tears while explaining why she’s keeping her baby’s name and gender secret

Alexandra Burke broke down in tears when asked why she’s kept her baby’s name and gender a secret during Monday’s Loose Women.

The singer, 34, who welcomed her first child with her footballer fiancé Darren Randolph, 35, in July, reflected on her fame’s ‘impact’ upon her family, and how it had been ‘hard’ for them.

Composing herself after crying, she added: ‘The impact on them is hard and they never asked for it. I want to protect the baby and make its own decision.

‘When I spoke to my friend I said, “I don’t want to hurt anyone.” My mum would say it’s the wise thing to do.’

The Elephant songstress went on to claim she is the ‘happiest she’s ever been’ while joking that ‘sleep is a thing of the past’.

She said: ‘Oh gosh, how life has changed. Sleep is a thing of the past. It’s changed in a brilliant way. I’ve never known love like this before. I’m the happiest I’ve ever been

‘It’s overwhelming, you cant put it into worlds. It’s the greatest gift in the world. I’m so happy.’

Alexandra, who lost her mother Melissa Bell in 2017 following a battle with diabetes mellitus, continued: ‘I think my mum would be really proud, she always wanted me to have kids. My mum was remarkable and raised four children alone.

‘My respect level is so much more from what she sacrificed for us to have food on the table… It’s been put into respect now I have a baby.’

Alexandra revealed to MailOnline last year she’s in a ‘really happy place’ with ‘lovely guy’ Darren – who she’s thought to have been dating since May 2021.

Her romance with Darren began after Alexandra split from footballer Angus MacDonald in October 2020, after 15-months of dating.

Darren previously dated The Saturdays star Rochelle Humes before she married singer Marvin Humes in 2012.

Alexandra, who has starred in many West End musicals, found fame after she won The X Factor back in 2008.
