What I ordered vs what I got: Biggest Shein fails

Shoppers have been left stunned after their orders from fast fashion retailer Shein were not what they expected.

Selling items for as little as £1 in its winter sale, Chinese fast fashion giant Shein boasts a range of affordable clothing, homeware, accessories and electronics.

But excited customers expecting a successful bargain have shared their dismay as they unboxed their purchases only to find the items were not what they had in mind.

Posting a ‘what I ordered vs what I got’-style video, customer Melanie Wilmoth, from Ohio, could not hide her disappointment when she tried on a pair of jeans she bought from the retailer.

Melanie was expecting a pair of stacked blue jeans gathered at the ankle but after trying them on, revealed that the jeans were too long, looking like a pair of flippers.

Responding to a comment which advised she pull the jeans up, she said ‘they are still way too long’.

While some users claimed the customer was styling the jeans wrong, one said they made the TikToker look like a platypus.

In a similar video, TikTok user Heather, from New Jersey, had ordered Shein’s solid faux fur carpet which was advertised as a plush-looking rug in a cosy bedroom.

But the fashion and travel enthusiast shared her outrage online when the small circular mat was just big enough for her to stand on.

TikTokers showed their amusement in the comments section with one assuming the picture on the website could only have been taken in ‘an America girl doll house’.

Others suggested Heather repurpose the rug by using it to decorate a chair or as a ‘centerpiece’.

Another customer Kendra, from Ontario, issued a stern warning to her followers in a video titled: ‘This is your sign to never order lashes from Shein…’

Sharing a photo of the bargain Sheglam eyelashes she thought she ordered, she then applied the set and revealed the unexpected result.

She showed the camera the uneven extra-long lashes and added in the comments: ‘I think they gave me the wrong ones because I checked the reviews and they looked good.’

But another customer commented: ‘I literally got the same pair and they came in like that as well.’

Meanwhile comments flooded in defending Shein’s false eyelashes and some even said Kendra could draw on a wing eyeliner to finish off the look.

22-year-old Akira from North Carolina shared her Shein conundrum with followers, showing her purchase of a glamorous pair red high-heeled boots.

She wrote: ‘Shein count your days’ as she revealed that, when she tried on the $45 boots, the heel was too short.

Amused viewers shared their tips saying: ‘You just gotta walk real fast’ while one recommended she find a heel extender to fix the shoes.

Another described the short heels saying: ‘the heel is the air’ while one advised Akira to ‘lean forward a lil bit’.

In another homeware dilemma, Dana, from New York, shared her surprise when her mum’s Shein purchase arrived.

She ordered the 12pcs Hexagon Mirror Wall Sticker which was shown in an image on the website as mirrored shapes configured into a chic decoration.

However when the package was delivered, the product turned out to be a collection of small shapes that needed to be stuck on individually.

TikTok users found the delivery hilarious with one commenting: ‘You are lying to me.’

Shein shopper Tori Walker, 25, from North Shields, was similarly taken aback when the knee-length crochet dress she ordered from the website for a holiday in Thailand arrived.

In the product image, the olive-coloured dress covered the model’s thighs with the tassels almost touching her knees.

But the 5ft4in customer was surprised when she tried on the dress and it barely reached her waist – looking more like a crop top.

Tori, who paid £10.12 for the dress with a discount code, said: ‘It just kept making me laugh. I thought, ‘Um that’s short’ so I tried it on and was like, ‘No…’

‘I looked on the reviews and people’s pictures look like the website. So I just kept on laughing because how does mine look so different? It’s literally like a crop top.

‘I’m a bit fuming, because it’s also bad quality with threads hanging out of it, and because I was really excited and happy when I ordered it and I thought it was going to look really nice.’

She said she didn’t think she had been sent the wrong item because the bag featured the matching product code.

Shein have been approached for comment.
