The maker of a popular granola bar has issued an urgent recall for millions of its products over fears they contain shards of metal.
Riverside Natural Foods Inc. has recalled several batches of MadeGood bars due to concerns that eating them ‘may result in a safety hazard’.
The Canadian-based company says the metals are from a ‘small, flat brush bristle’, though it is unclear how big they are.
The FDA says that foreign objects in food that are bigger than 7mm can cause trauma or serious injury, especially in the elderly and children.
An investigation launched by Riverside Natural Foods Inc. found that the metal pieces made their way into the bars during the manufacturing process.
The recall impacts 11 different flavors of MadeGood granola bars sold in multi-pack boxes.
The impacted flavors are; Chocolate Chip, Holiday Sprinkles Chocolate Drizzled, Mixed Berry, Strawberry, Cookies & Crème, Halloween Chocolate Chip, Chocolate Banana, Chocolate Drizzled, Chocolate Drizzled Birthday Cake, Chocolate Drizzled Cookie Crumble, and Chocolate Drizzled Vanilla.

The products were produced between January and November 2024 and distributed throughout Canada, the United States and other international markets.
In the US, retailers including Whole Foods and Walmart stock the MadeGood brand and the bars are also available via Amazon.
Prices range from around $10 for a six-pack to $40 for a 30-pack.
Consumers who have purchased these products are asked to check them against a comprehensive list issued by the FDA.
Any compromised bars can be returned to the store where they were purchased for a full refund.
MadeGood says so far, it has received seven complaints out of the ‘hundreds of millions of bars sold,’ and no injuries have been reported.
It adds on its website: ‘We are recalling these products as a precautionary measure because we believe transparency and the safety of our consumers are paramount.’
Along with granola bars, MadeGood makes a variety of other products including crackers, cookies and oat bars.
However, the firm said no other products are affected.
The company says it has ‘remediated the issue and tested the new processes to ensure that any future risk is fully mitigated’.
It is now in the process of working with retailers to ensure all recalled products are promptly removed from shelves.
Riverside Natural Foods was founded in Ontario, Canada, in 2013 by three siblings Nima, Salma and Sahba Fotovat and it remains a family-run business.
MadeGood was the first brand launched, with the Good To Go, and Cookie Pal brands launching at later dates.
