A 13-year-old girl is hailed as a hero after throwing herself between a truck and her nephew

A 13-year-old girl has been hailed a hero after she saved her four-year-old nephew from being run over by a truck.

The pair were disembarking a bus in Swan View, Perth at about 4pm on Tuesday when Jordyn disobeyed his teenage aunt Jayla Wallace and crossed the road without her.

The young victim didn’t see the Isuzu truck that was overtaking the bus, forcing Jayla to jump in front of the truck to protect him, 9 News reported.

Despite Jayla’s attempts, the pair were hit and pushed three-metres away from the bus stop, which has been labelled dangerous by the local community.

While the pair are now recovering from the accident, Jordyn was placed in an induced coma at Perth Children’s Hospital due to his fractured skull.

Jessy Scattini, Jordyn’s mother, was thankful for the heroic and quick-thinking actions of Jayla.

‘[She’s] actually thrown herself in front of the truck knowing she was going to get hit, and tried to throw him out of the way,’ she said.

‘She’s our guardian angel and without her I don’t know where I’d be or where he’d be.’

Ms Scattini said she didn’t blame the driver as her son was too young to be aware of the danger on the roads and the unfortunate circumstances could have happened to anyone.

While she is thankful for the ‘superhero’ efforts of Jayla, Ms Scattini also thanked the public assistance at the accident.

‘Everyone in the community that came out to help, I really appreciate it, because without them, I don’t know what we would have done,’ she said.
