A beautiful love story of Perth couple fighting to the end

A beautiful married couple who met as children in a hospital are facing their toughest challenge yet. 

Matt and Kaila Maartensz’s love story started at the Princess Margaret Hospital in Perth, where they started their romance as they suffered from cystic fibrosis. 

Both diagnosed as babies, the couple have each received the gift of new lungs to ease the burden of constant hospital visits. 

The lovebirds married in 2015 after Matt proposed in 2014 soon after receiving his new lungs.

The loved-up couple (pictured) met as children and their loved blossomed as adults 

But the romantic team have endured what no couple should.

In December 2015 Matt was struggling to breath and admitted back to hospital in the Intensive Care Unit. 

He was told by doctors there was ‘nothing they could do to help him’ according to a fundraising page set up for the pair. 

‘Matt is fighting for every breath,’ friend Angela Terry wrote on the fundraising page she has set up.

‘I have never in my life witnessed such raw courage and determination. 

‘He is absolutely determined to win this fight.’   

Matt has posted about his ordeal publicly on his Facebook page.  

 ‘The past two months have been the toughest we’ve probably ever had to face and things aren’t looking to get any easier,’ he said. 

‘I’m planning on proving the doctors wrong and getting better but to do that I’ll need 24-7 support.

‘If anyone can help in any way, we would be forever grateful.’

The couple fell in love during adult life after meeting in hospital as children, according to the fundraising page.

 ‘Those of you who are lucky enough to know Matt and Kaila know them as the most beautiful and courageous young couple,’ a friend wrote.

‘Those who witnessed them marry in 2015 felt like they were part of the most miraculous love story ever told. 

‘They are now facing the biggest challenge of their lives and they need our help.’
